Dear Friends, AOA

I hope most of you know me for one reason or the other. I am Sayyid Mansoob Hasan, FCMA, and have been in public practice since 1995. I've also served in KBC as member, secretary and vice chairman and various committees of National Council and have worked with many presidents. Also observed the working of many council since 1991 when I qualified. I am presently the member of a committee of National Council called "Practicing Profession Development Committee". I would like to share some personal experience and points related to the question under discussion.

We, the management accountants, can put a lot of blame for not having the level playing field on Chartered Accountants, the politicians, the military governments, the bureaucracy and find some good escape goats, but the real problem is somewhere else. Let us see what is it.

We, the management accountants, have never considered that:
1. ICAP has most of the time been led by Practicing Chartered Accountants the presidents have had good visions due to their firms affiliations with international public accounting bodies.
2. ICAPs councils have mostly been comprised of Practicing Chartered Accountants, again mostly belonging to prominent firms thus having good visions.

What I see as the difference is, being a Practicing Accountant means the person is an Entrepreneur, and Entrepreneur, as an Employer, is a person who has to carry big responsibilities including of those who are working for him. Thus an Entrepreneur takes care of many many families and of his profession. Survival instinct is the highest in Entrepreneurs.

Whereas, ICMAP has been led by people who have been "Employees" and mostly government employees who were "Satisfied" with their positions, the Councils have been comprising mostly of people who have been "Employees". The members of ICMAP also have failed to project Practicing Members to the National Councils.

In my humble opinion an Employee is never Equal to an Employer. The vision of an Employee cannot be equal to or better than an Employer.

As I have told you earlier that I have worked with many presidents and Councils and have observed many Presidents and Councils working, I have seen that the real problem lies within us, the Presidents, The Councils and even the Members do not have a "VISION TO PROMOTE PRACTICE".

All of the members are requested to analyze their own attitude towards their practicing members as to how much business do each one of us give to our practicing members. How many practicing members are on our panel of consultants, I can highlight many many similar points.

Charity begins at home.

If we want something from the society let us first strengthen ourselves then we can ask for anything. This is the bottom-line. If we cannot do this we cannot blame any one else.

Think, and I am sure you will find some way. As I believe that where there is a will there is a way. If you really have the will then you will surely find a way.

God bless you.
